The blast furnace at Cefn Cribwr, 6 km NW Bridgend, produced iron for about 50 years from its foundation by John Bedford in the 1780s until 1836. Its remains, acquired by the local authority in 1987, have been uncovered and conserved and are now incorporated in Bedford Park. Cefn Cribwr is one of the most complete blast furnace complexes in Britain, with substantial remains of calcining kilns and coke ovens, as well as the blowing engine house, the charging ramp, the stack, the forehearth and the casting house. The car park occupies the site of a brickworks.
