Moulin du Got is a paper mill in the small village of Le Pénitent, about 15 kilometres east of Limoges. The mill stands next to the river Vienne. It was built originally in the fifteenth century. On the guided tour, visitors experience the full process of making paper and learn about the history of printing. A special attraction is that visitors can see today’s craftspeople making paper and printing books. The papermakers manufacture high-qualify paper using traditional materials such as hemp, flax and cotton and make card and lampshades on a machine from the nineteenth century. Typographers and printers work for artists and publishers using traditional letterpress techniques. Authors often come into Moulin du Got to see their books being made. There are creative workshops for children. Outside the waterwheel survives and there is a picnic area.
