Tata Steel, formerly known as Hoogovens, is one of the main steelfactories in Europe. The complex is not accessible to the public. The Blast Furnace Museum has been set up outside the plant in the historic former pipeline building and tells the story of the steelworks site through objects, old documents, photographs and film footage.

For who admires the spectaclular scenery of heavy industry, this is a must-see. There are no facilities for the public. The complex can be viewed from different places around. The sea-lock complex next to Corus is opened 24 hours a day and freely accessible. Especially at sundown, this location is worth to visit.

At april 19nd 1917 H.J.E. Wenckebach disclosed his plan to build a blastfurnicecompany in The Netherlands consisting of: three blastfurnaces, a cokesfactory with wasteproductsfactory and a factory for cement to reuse blastfurnace slag. A committee was installed for the establishment of an integrated steelfactory with steelrolling-installations. It started with the building of two blastfurnaces and a cokesbattery and the development of infrastructural elements like roads, harbours, railwaystations, a powerplant and a refinery for cokesgas. The complex was severely damaged during the second worldwar. Rebuilding the complex got high priority after the war: the factory was one of the main suppliers of materials needed for reparing the wardamage. Thanks to available Marshall-fundings a new rollingstation and headoffice could be realised.
