Dresden Technical Collections

The entrance to the museum of science and technology, now titled Dresden Technical Collections, is on Schandauer Straße. The multi-storey building was a factory for the Ernemann camera company and was completed in stages from 1898 to 1938. The main section, designed in 1913 by Emil Högg and Richard Müller, is of reinforced concrete with large windows and a seven-storey section on top of which is an oval, five-storey tower. The museum combines science and technology with industrial history. It was established in 1966 and moved to the factory building in 1993. Visitors see several permanent exhibitions. Two on technology feature microelectronics, which was important in Dresden from the 1960s onwards, and information and communication technology, including music recording, office systems and computers. Other interactive displays explore mathematics and the physics of light and sound waves. The organisation is especially strong on learning activities for families and educational groups and shows temporary exhibitions. The collections are well represented online particularly rich in optical and sound equipment.
