The collections of the Technical Museum in Bergen are managed by several voluntary groups each of which takes responsibility for a section of the museum. They are overseen by a board of trustees. The museum is housed in a street tramway depot (Trikkehallen) of 1913, a listed building. The best-known activity is the tramway line which aims to recreate the system (Bergens Elektriske Sporvej) that ran in the city between 1897 and 1965. Currently it is possible to operate trams over only 300 m. of track but there are plans for expansion. Displays within the tram depot include motor cars and commercial vehicles, domestic appliances, a print shop, a section on telecommunications and a large model railway layout. There is a forge and mechanical workshop on the premises available to the various groups.
