The European Commission had declared 2018 as the European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH 2018 - "Our heritage: where the past meets the future"). It celebrated both: our common cultural roots and the cultural diversity of the continent, and both come together in the European industrial heritage, the specific cultural legacy of a Europe of regions.
ERIH organised a number of Europe-wide activities celebrating EYCH 2018. The EYCH 2018 projects as well as other projects described following will be continued the next few years.
From its very beginning, industrialisation has crossed borders - it was never a purely national phenomenon. ERIH's brochure is a first step to present the various European links and interconnections.
The presentation "Change with Impact" illustrates the transformation of industrialized regions in Europe and gives an impression of the diversity of European industrial heritage. A mobile version can be borrowed.
After a successful start as EYCH 2018 activity, ERIH annualy organises a special event on Labour Day which units ERIH-sites all over Europe with a spectacular dance event for kids and teens: "WORK it OUT".
The "Linking Europe" project focuses on the traces, stories and testimonies of the industrial development, makes contexts visible and conveys industrial history in an European as well as in a local context.
In 2019 ERIH in cooperation with the Regionalverband Ruhr for the second time carried out a survey of industrial heritage sites in Europe.
The project comprises the twinning of thematically similar ERIH sites to share experience and good practice and to develop skills and competences.
