Porcelain Museum

The porcelain factory Porsgrunds Porselænsfabrik (often known as PP) was established in 1887 by the Norwegian ship-owner and entrepreneur Johan Jeremiassen. The factory still makes fine porcelain at the same location in the town and port of Porsgrunds in south-east Norway. The museum occupies an industrial building on the waterfront of the Skien river or Porsgrunnselva. It is next to the working Porsgrunn factory, where guided tours are organised to see how porcelain is produced through all its stages today. Around a thousand items are beautifully displayed in specially made wood and glass cases, supported with digital tools. Some ancient ceramics are shown alongside the products of Porsgrunds Porselænsfabrik itself. Well-known artists are profiled who have contributed designs to the factory, such as Nora Guldbrandsen and Odd Nerdrum. The museum also gives visitors an opportunity to try making porcelain for themselves. The Auction Hall nearby sells historical porcelain.
