This year's "Days of Rhine-Main Industrial Heritage" are heavily influenced by the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus. From 3 to 11 August, everything in the FrankfurtRhineMain cultural area will be devoted to architectural traditions, with a focus on buildings and industrial ensembles as well as urban development and the role of art in architecture.
53 cities and more than 150 hosts provide a varied programme with some 190 events. These include visits to technological parks, companies or depots, guided tours of transport infrastructure and port facilities, tours by ship, train, bus and bicycle and, not least, open-air film presentations.
Among the participants are many still less known industrial sites in the Rheingau, Wetterau and Darmstadt-Dieburg. "Some of them are opening their doors for the first time to the public," says Sabine von Bebenburg, managing director of FrankfurtRhineMain cultural area and former ERIH board member.
The complete 9-day programme is available online or for download here: bit.ly/Tage_der_Industriekultur_2019. If you don't have time in August, you can visit the area' s most important monuments - all year round and on an individual basis - as part of the ERIH Rhine-Main Industrial Heritage Regional Route.
