"Twinning of Sites": Silesia visits Rhineland

From 19 - 23 August 2018, the LVR Industrial Museum in Oberhausen (D) hosted representatives of the Foundation for the Protection of Silesian Industrial Heritage (PL) as part of the "Twining of Sites" program implemented by ERIH.

The purpose of the visit of the Foundation's representatives was to get acquainted with the functioning of one of the largest museum networks in Europe, operating 7 industrial museums in the Rhineland. Of particular interest were issues related to the collection, storage and development of collections and the organization of work at the headquarter and the individual units of the network.

The main carer for the trip and its main organizer on the German side was Dr. Burkhard Zeppenfeld, director of Altenberg Zinc Mill in Oberhausen. During the visit, representatives of the Foundation had the opportunity not only to hold a series of working meetings with people responsible for the various aspects of the LVR Industrial Museum, but also to visit some of the sites building the network - including St. Antony-Hütte in Oberhausen, the oldest steelworks in the Ruhr area as well as Müller Cloth Mill in Euskirchen or Hendrichs Drop Forge in Solingen, both ERIH Anchor Points.

The return visit of the representatives of the LVR Industrial Museum is planned in November 2018. Its main purpose will be to get acquainted with Walcownia Cynku (Zinc Rolling Mill) Museum in Katowice (a Museum of the Foundation for the Protection of Silesian Industrial Heritage).
