19th ERIH Conference: Call for Papers

"Industrial heritage as an engine for sustainable, social and economic community regeneration" is the topic of the ERIH conference, which will be held from 8 to 10 November 2023 in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain, as well as online. The event is framed by the idea of the "New European Bauhaus" (NEB), an interdisciplinary initiative of the European Union that aims to build a bridge between the world of science and technology, the world of art and culture and community engagement.

The NEB puts the focus on local and regional projects, as it is particularly on this level that a high degree of participation of the respective communities can be achieved. That said, industrialisation provides excellent conditions: While it is global in scope, it has always been an essentially regional process based on specific local natural and cultural resources. This makes the industrial legacy highly appropriate as an experimental environment for new jobs, tourism, leisure, new forms of production and work, and new ways of life.

We invite speakers from a wide range of fields related to the management of industrial heritage and infrastructure, local development and tourism, community social engagement, urban regeneration, and education and culture. Interested persons should submit a précis of their paper in English to the ERIH Secretariat by Friday (30 June 2023; extended until) 14 July 2023.
