In the wake of the pandemic, Europeans are discovering Europe – a trend encouraged by the European Commission with a photo competition. It is open to all European citizens who are ready to share a cultural experience. This might be a visit to a local museum or theatre in one' s home town, cultural explorations in another European country – or an exciting industrial monument.
As ERIH, we are happy to share this call: like no other network, the European Route of Industrial Heritage provides an excellent basis for discovering large and small highlights of the industrial age in any European country. And: this is perhaps the best opportunity to travel by car or bicycle on one of the many ERIH regional routes.
Apart from being very diverse, their sites - all of them monuments and museums dedicated to the region's industrial history - continue to shape the surrounding area, often to this day. They also establish European interconnections by demonstrating that the industrialisation process in different parts of Europe was similar and that it still has an impact on our common European culture.
To enter the photo competition, simply upload an image using a web form, add a short explanatory text and share your entry with the #EuropeForCulture hashtag. Entries must be submitted by Sunday 23 August 2020. After that, three winners will be selected and will each receive a voucher for a cultural experience.
