A visit to Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse begins on the ground floor with a short introductory film in ‘The Regalette’ mini-cinema. You then walk through the Special Exhibitions Gallery to two other galleries on the ground floor. Firstly, the Victorian Workhouse Schoolroom which explores school life in the Workhouse, and secondly, at weekends and school holidays, the magnificent Board of Guardians’ Meeting Room. This room is often used by school groups during the week so may not be open to general visitors then.
Salt of the Earth Gallery tells the story of mid-Cheshire people from earliest times to the present day. Moving Around Gallery tells the story of the area’s transport networks. Making Salt Gallery, which tells the story of salt production in Cheshire over 2,000 years, will be relaunched as the Working Life Gallery covering other important industries in the area including ship building, farming and chemicals. Old River Weaver Gallery is currently being altered and will be relaunched as the Life in a Market Town Gallery.
