Volandia Park and Museum of Flight

Volandia is one of the largest aeronautical museums in Europe, with around 100 aircraft. It is next to the entrance to Milan-Malpensa airport and uses offices and hangars of the pioneering aircraft manufacturer Caproni. It opened in 2010. The museum aims to present the worldwide history of aviation but with a focus on Italian manufacturers such as Caproni, Fiat and Agusta. It relates the history of flight beginning with the pioneers of ballooning and the first powered aircraft in the early 1900s, including the first flight by the Caproni biplane in 1910. There is a reconstruction of the Caproni workshops in their early years. The future of flight is considered with displays of convertiplanes that use both rotors and wings. An astronomy and space pavilion has a planetarium and large-scale models. An area is devoted to flight simulators that allow visitors to experience what it is like to fly different aircraft. Since 2018 the museum has also housed a collection of 76 cars created by the Bertone company of designers, including models for Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Citroën and prototypes for other manufacturers.
