Velké Popovice Brewery

Velké Popovice, a municipality with a good 3,000 inhabitants today about 15 km southeast of Prague, grew in buildings and inhabitants at the end of the 19th century, triggered by a brewery that began production in 1874. The entrepreneur Franz Ringhoffer II (1817-73) had the beer brand Velkopopovický Kozel ("Great Popovice Goat") brewed here, whose distinctive mark and namesake is a goat (Czech 'kozel'). After nationalisation in 1945, the brewery has been independent again since 1991, experienced several changes of ownership and has belonged to the international Asahi Beer group since 2016.

The billy goat 'Olda' welcomes visitors, who can take a guided tour of the brewery to see the production facilities and the manufacturing process as well as the rooms that belonged to the first owners of the brewery and then take part in a tasting.
