Tram Museum Skjoldenæsholm

The Tram Museum opened in 1978 and is run by volunteers from the Danish tramway historical society. It preserves trams, buses and trolleybuses, sited on a section of the former Sjællandske Midtbane (Zealand central railway). It has absorbed other collections to become the most important tram and bus museum in Denmark, with around 140 vehicles from Danish cities and systems around the world. A third of these are in working order for passengers. A short track of 1000mm gauge carries trams of Aarhus, Flensburg and Basel from the car park and another of standard gauge carries trams from Copenhagen and other cities for 1.5km into Højbjerg Forest. Vintage buses drive on tours around the area. The vehicles range in date from a horse-drawn tram of 1863 to a Tatra electric tram of 1985 from Prague. Historical buildings brought to the site include a tram depot of 1901 from Copenhagen and a telephone booth from Frederiksberg. Other buildings display trams and buses, working models, posters, tickets and recreated shop windows.
