In 1938, Ford opened a new purpose-built factory at Poissy, less than 20 km from Paris. Over the following eighty years, the area became renowned for its car industry: manufacturers with factories there included Ford, Simca, Chrysler and Peugeot. L’Aventure Automobile À Poissy (also known as CAAPY) was founded in 1984, since when it has occupied several different locations. The focus of the collection is on Simca, a former French brand which once manufactured France’s best-selling cars. The seventy vehicles displayed are arranged chronologically, starting with models such as the Ford F-472A and the 1920s Fiat-Simca cars assembled at Nanterre. The post-war era is represented by vehicles such as the charming Comète Coupe ‘Monte Carlo’, the pre-Simca Vedette, and the Marly V8 Estate used by ex-Grand Prix driver Jean-Pierre Beltoise. An exhibition features car components, advertising and factory clothing.
