The Igartza Monumental Complex

The Igartza monument complex has its origins in the 14th century, when the Lord of Lazcano built a tower and a wooden bridge. The monuments that we see today date from the 16th and 17th centuries, and the complex includes a palace, mill, forge, dam, hermitage, bridge, cross and the Hotel Dolarea.

During the first decade of the 21st century the significance of the Igartza complex was recognized and it was restored. The monument complex is now used as a cultural area, different events are held there such as theme based guided tours, art and culture exhibitions, weddings, concerts, theatres, talks, book presentations ... these new uses brings a sense of continuity, a connection with the past.

The guided tours offered can be related to different subjects, such as the influence of this place in the development of industry , or the women that have played a part in the history of the complex. Usually however, the tour guides explain the origins of the town of Beasain and the monument complex, and afterwards visitors can explore the inside of the palace, the dam, the mill, the hermitage and the forge.
