If you want to experience the sound and the atmosphere of an old printery visit Stralsund at the Baltic Sea. In this medieval Hanseatic city until 1931 the largest German game cards factury operated. Since 2009 the society „Jugendkunst e. V.“ runs a living museum called „Spielkartenfabrik Museumswerkstatt Stralsund“. You can see working printing machines from the 19th century. The heart of the work shop ist a linotype-typograph built 1861. You won't forget the interaction between band wheels, belts and hand gears of this mechanical artwork. The colleagues show the machines and tell about card games manufacture. All cards are handmade from the idea to the finish. Once in while you also can enter a weekend workshop for typography or letterpress.
