The Ignacy Lukasiewicz Open Air Museum of the Oil Industry

Ignacy Lukasiewicz established the first oil well in Europe at Bobrka in 1854, and the museum that takes his name was opened in 1961. The site of the first well is marked with an obelisk, and Lukasiewicz’s house is preserved. The open air museum contains many large exhibits and structures relating to the oil industry, including preserved well heads, a boiler house of 1867, and a range of drilling rigs ranging in date from a manual rig of 1862 to imposing structures of the mid-20th century.
