The Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation Gas Museum

Housed in La Energía, an Art Nouveau building in Plaça del Gas, the Gas Museum takes visitors on a journey through the development of the gas and electricity industries in the 19th and 20th centuries. Reviewing the social changes brought about by the use of new technologies and inventions, the exhibition suggests a meditation on the past, present and future of energy and raises awareness about the importance of making an efficient use of the natural resources available to us in order to obtain energy continuously, economically and in an environmentally-friendly manner. The museum discourse also highlights the measures applied in this outstanding building to promote sustainability, making the site an example of eco-efficient construction.Adopting a plural, interdisciplinary approach, the Gas Museum organises a rich cultural programme for all audiences, with activities throughout the year. In this way, the Museum combines its mission of promoting industrial heritage and staging exhibitions with the organisation of lectures, educational programmes for schools, activities for young and old, and film and music seasons, as well as editing specialised publications.

The Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation Historic Archive, conserved by the Gas Museum, comprises more than 3,000 metres of shelves, their contents duly catalogued, to form one of the most important company archives in Spain. The documents in this specialist reference centre illustrate the country’s industrial history.

The Gas Museum is a cultural centre managed by the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation, a reference institution in the field of energy, the environment and the history of gas and electricity. The Foundation organises educational, training and research activities in Europe, Latin America and the Maghreb countries.
