Stourport Basins

Ask most people in the West Midlands about Stourport-on-Severn, and they will tell you it is a great day out. The town is popular with visitors from the urban areas because of its beautiful riverside setting and the range of activities it provides. It was a busy little place in the late 1700s too. In 1766, the Stafforshire and Worcestershire canal was connected to the Severn here, forming an inland port, joining the Black Country with the busiest English river - and the great sea port of Bristol. The town grew around the canal basins, and is a fine example of a Georgian canal side ´new town´. It was once one of the busiest inland ports in Britain.

There is much to do and to explore. Take a trip on the river on a cruise boat, or hire one to steer yourself. Visit the funfair and take in the view from the top of the giant slide. Drive a go-kart, have a round of mini-golf, or settle down for a picnic in the riverside meadows. But don´t miss the opportunity to explore the town. Follow the town trail which takes you through the canal basins and around the beautiful clock warehouse. Stop off at one of the canalside inns which provided sustenance for the boaters, and enjoy watching boats climbing the great staircase locks.
