The Galician museum of the sea is located in the former canning factory, Alcabre-Molino de Viento, built in 1887 on the sea shore at Punta de Muriño. It was imaginatively rebuilt for the museum in the early years of the twenty first century. The main sections deal with fisheries and the scientific investigation of marine ecosystems. There is an aquarium and a reconstruction of a local Iron Age village. The museum sponsors underwater research of various kinds, and is planning a new hall in which to display historical evidence from shipwrecks.
