Scottish Fisheries Museum

The Scottish Fisheries Museum is in a spectacular location opposite the harbour in the fishing village of Anstruther, in the beautiful East Neuk of Fife. From the earliest recorded history of Anstruther, fishing was the mainstay of the town. At one time, more fish were caught, processed and traded here than at any other harbour in Scotland. Cured fish were exported to other parts of Scotland, to England, and abroad to Europe.

The Musem is a National Museum, telling the story of the Scottish fishing industry, its boats, harbours and communities. It displays cover virtually every aspect of the industry and community, both at sea and on shore. The variety and beauty of old fishing boats are shown in the models and original vessels. Social history is explored via personal possessions, textiles, domestic equipment and artworks.

Housed in historic buildings, the Museum was founded in the late 1960s. At the centre of the Museum is a cobble stone courtyard.
