Ruhr Tourismus GmbH

Ruhr Tourismus GmbH (RTG) was founded with the aim of bundling product development, marketing and sales and developing an independent regional tourism profile for the Ruhr metropolis. The task of RTG is to profile the Ruhr Metropolis as a travel destination and to network the region's tourism partners with the aim of more efficient marketing.

Once a year, the Ruhr metropolis becomes a huge festival site. The "ExtraSchicht - Night of Industrial Culture" is a unique project that brings together more than 50 venues and 150 cooperation partners. For one night, disused mines and blast furnaces, dumps and coking plants, gasometers and steelworks become the backdrop for street theater, music, artistry, dance or huge screens for video installations and light shows, presenting the entire cultural potential of the region. Since 2001, the Night of Industrial Culture has thus staged the transformation of the Ruhr Metropolis from heavy industry to a modern economic and cultural region. Up to 300,000 visitors experience a unique summer and cultural festival - and with it the entire fascination of the Metropole Ruhr. With a mobility system set up especially for the night with buses, historic trains, bicycle and ship shuttles, visitors move from venue to venue and become actors of the night themselves.
