Lancaster Maritime Museum

Located within two fine Georgian quayside buildings. Uses sounds, smells and reconstructions to tell the story of the port of Lancaster, the Lancaster Canal, fishing and the ecology of Morecambe Bay.

The Maritime Museum was opened in 1985. It occupies the former Custom House of 1764 by Richard Gillow and an adjacent warehouse.

With regularly changing exhibitions and events, Lancaster Maritime Museum is also a great starting point for the river´s Millenium Park

You can see displays showing the port of Lancaster as it used to work, up to a model of the Morecambe Bay Gas field in the present day. There are early coracles (small boats), an early passenger canal boat to walk through and half a stage coach to sit in!
