Industrial Narrow Gauge Railway Museum

The Industrial Narrow Gauge Railway museum was opened at Erica, 8 km south of Emmen, in 1984. The objective of the museum is to preserve evidence of narrow gauge railway systems, particularly those that served the peatlands of the eastern part of the Netherlands along the border with Germany. The museum occupies a 6 ha base, from which visitors are able to take lengthy rides on both 700 mm and 900 mm gauge systems. The museum’s locomotives are for the most part small diesels of the kind used on the peat railways in the mid-20th century.
