Flemish Tram and Motor Bus Museum

Antwerp’s museum of local transport is located in a tram shed of 1912, which was registered as an historical monument in 1996 and ceased to be used the following year. The museum opened in 2001 and has a collection of 55 vehicles, the oldest dating from 1873. It includes steam trams and first electric tram in the city that began to work in 1899, as well as a ‘gyrobus’ that was propelled by a flywheel. There are displays of uniforms, tickets and other artefacts relating to tramways and urban buses. Historic trams from the museum run from time to time on the streets of Antwerp, and can be hired for special occasions.
