Copper Coast Geopark

The Copper Coast Geopark is located on the south coast of Ireland between the towns of Tramore and Dungarvan, and extends 25 km from Kilfarrasy in the east to Stradballey in the west. A tourism group established in 1997 secured the area’s recognition as a European Geopark in 2001 and it is now recognised by UNESCO as a geopark. The principal interpretive centre for the park is in a former chapel at Bunmahon, where there are displays illustrating the area’s geology and mining heritage. The principal monument of past industry is a Cornish engine house of the mid-nineteenth century, which was part of a copper mine. From Bunmahon there are trails introducing visitors to the area which can be followed by motorists, cyclists or walkers. The centre also offers educational programmes with an emphasis on earth sciences and STEM (Science, Technology and Mathematics) subjects. It also incorporates a craft shop and café.
