Sauerland Museum

The Sauerland Museum was founded in 1925 as a museum of local history for the Sauerland region and the history of the Duchy of Westphalia. Since 1937 it has been housed in the Landsberger Hof, a 17th century electoral palace and listed building. In 2019 it will receive a modern, multi-award-winning extension.

As part of South Westphalia, Sauerland is the strongest industrial region in North Rhine-Westphalia, home to many market and world leaders. The museum's exhibitions focus on the region's economic and industrial history. It also hosts regular temporary exhibitions on the region's diverse industrial history, including industrialisation, brewing, tourism, timber and forestry, glass production, the paper and textile industries and much more. The collections show the region's belated revival after the Second World War, as well as the millennia-old history of mining and metalworking in the region. Trade also plays an important role for South Westphalia and the museum's collections. Highlights include the rare and legendary Kleinschnittger F 125, a model of the Ruhr Valley Railway and an interactive media station on the history of the company, as well as extensive collections on brands such as Severin, Cloer, Veltins, Umarex, Schroth, Ritzenhoff, Trilux and many more.
