Rožňava Mining Museum

Rožňava is a mining town at the centre of an extensive ironmaking region in eastern Slovakia. Its mining museum, whose earliest collections date from 1902, has extensive displays, including some located underground, illustrating methos of extracting iron ore. A blast furnace that worked between 1843 and 1907 remains at Vlachovo, 15 km to the NW, and another, which operated from 1867 until 1907 at Nizna Slana, 11 km NW.
