This mining museum is sited at the former Julius III lignite mine, 30km north of Most. It was established in 2003 by the Association of North Bohemian Miners in collaboration with the Most museum to show the history of mining in North Bohemia since the middle ages. Julius III operated for 120 years from 1881. The headframe is intact together with the shaft building and part of the coal preparation plant. Next to it is the winding house with a steam engine made in Prague in 1891. In a reconstructed section of underground workings visitors see coal-cutting machines, electric trains, a suspended monorail and coal conveyors. A dedicated area explains the dangerous work of mine rescue services and the history of mining disasters. Also on display are scale models of opencast processes, winding gear, limekilns and the surface buildings of the Humboldt II mine in the 1930s. Among the exhibits outside are a steam locomotive and a lift cage.
