Spain's first oil museum is located in the Unesco Geopark Las Loras, on the edge of the Ayoluengo oil field discovered in 1964 in the town of Sargentes de la Lora, some 50 km north of the provincial capital of Burgos. With objects and display boards, it presents the history and development of the oil field, the oil extraction and production processes. The most important exhibit is in the outdoor area: the original Trikon drill that was used in the development of the oil field. Some rooms also serve as the Geopark's information centre, where the geology of the region is explained and the connection with the origin of oil is established.
