Mining Museum in Landek Park

The mining museum situated in Landek Park opened in 1993, but incorporating collections that date from 1905, is based in a range of red brick colliery buildings, designed by Viennese architects between 1890 and 1915. It includes headstocks, engineering shops and pithead baths.

The vast former industrial area of Landek is protected natural heritage and combines beautiful nature with an exhibition mapping out the progress of humankind from Stone Age through the Industrial Revolution all the way to the present times and the mining technology typical for the 20th century.  The wide array of things to see is what makes Landek Park the unique museum that it is.

Descend down into the oldest mine in Ostrava together with a retired miner. His moving stories from down below, told in the authentic environment, will allow you to at least partially transcend into the world of mining. You can try out how heavy jackhammers and shovels are. Coal ploughs will jump into gear right in front of your eyes. Finally, the grand finale is a ride on the mine train.
