Kleinenbremen Visitor Mine and Museum

The Kleinenbremenb Visitor Mine and Museum is located in the former Wohlverwahrt iron ore mine in Kleinenbremen, a district of Porta Westfalica. Originally a limestone quarry, iron ore was discovered here in the 19th century and led to the industrial revolution in Kleinenbremen. From 1883 until the 1960s, iron ore was mined here in several shifts, first by hand and then with large machines. The mine workings were also expanded during the Second World War for underground relocation in armaments production.

In the museum visitors can discover the evidence of the earth's history with regional fossils and the history of mining with exciting objects and authentic rooms. The historical quarry with the old track system, the crushing and screening plant, the locomotive shed and the national geotope can be visited on one's own, as well as the circular hiking trail around the quarry. The visitor mine can only be visited as part of a guided tour. In 90 minutes, the visitors will see several mining areas, be shown mining equipment, ride a train and see the visual highlight of the tour: the blue lake underground.
