The ironworks at Stara Kuznica which lies 44 km north of Kielce, within the Starapolski Industrial Region developed in the early 19th century by Stanislaw Staszic (1755-1826), was built in the mid-19th century but following practices of the 18th century. It became a museum in 1961, and visitors are able to see most of the equipment in motion. The forges were powered by traditional wood-and-leather bellows, which still remain, as does the water-driven hammer.
