Hall of the Century Bochum

This impressive hall was built as an exhibition hall by the Bochumer Verein ironworks for the 1902 world exhibition in Düsseldorf, after which it was used as a gas-blower and dynamo station in the cast-iron works. The airy steel construction is one of the first examples of purely functional engineering architecture. In 1993 the Hall with the extraordinary size of 8,900 square metres was cleaned up and revived as a major venue for exhibitions, culture, leisure and sport. Now it is the centre of the new West Park. The West Park project in Bochum connects with an inner city area, which used to be a “no-go area” for town planners. It is a part of the regional network of cycling trails, an activity and recreational area for the surrounding district. The Hall of the Century was comprehensively renovated in 2003 and is now used by the »RuhrTriennale« music and theatre festival as the main festival headquarters.
