Gianni Caproni Aeronautical Museum

Named after the aeronautical engineer Giovanni Battista " Gianni " Caproni (1886-1957), the museum is near Trento airport, which is also named after him. Born 40km away at Massone in 1886, Caproni established an aircraft factory with his brother at Milan in 1908. Two years later they produced the first aircraft in Italy. They continued to develop aircraft until 1950. The museum is based on the collections made at Milan by Caproni from 1929. He kept examples of aircraft he produced such as the Caproni Ca.6 biplane and Ca.9 monoplane of 1911 and the Cal.100 seaplane. He also collected aircraft by other companies, including Avia, Focker, Manzolini and Savoy-Marchetti, which are complemented in the museum by later acquisitions such as a Lockheed Starfighter of the 1960s. The museum moved to a new building at Trento in 1992, adding another hanger in 2011. In addition to aircraft, the museum displays parts, instruments, cutaways memorabilia and Caproni’s art collection. There are reconstructions of a drawing office and a propeller workshop.
