German Horse-drawn Tram Museum

The Döbeln horse-drawn tram was not created until 1892, although electric trams were available, but they needed high initial investment and therefore did not become popular quickly. The horse-drawn tram connected the railway station, which is on the main line from Leipzig to Dresden, with the town centre, about 2 km away. Although the track was well received, the operating company did not dare to switch to electric operation. Just before Christmas 1926, it ceased operation.

In 2007 the Döbeln Horse-drawn Tram Association succeeded in re-starting operation on a 550-m section of the railway, even if only once a month and on special occasions. But in the German Horsetram Museum, visitors can learn about the international history of horse-drawn trams at all times.
