The Ferdinand Porsch Experience is housed in a former shoe factory a 15-minute drive north of Salzburg. The name fahr(T)raum means ‘driving dream’ and ‘driving space’. Ferdinand Porsche (1875-1951) began his career in Vienna at the age of 18 and became one of the world’s most prolific and influential automobile designers. The museum has aircraft, early electric carriages, tractors, sports cars and racing cars. Interactive displays and equipment let visitors learn through hands-on experience – including working models of aerodynamics and piston operation, driving simulators and a model-car racetrack. Among early vehicles on display is a Lohner-Porsche Mixte– an electric car with a petrol generator of 1901. Porsch began working with Daimler in 1906 and became head of Austro-Daimler. The collection includes the Austro-Daimler Maja of 1908 as well as the beautiful sports cars made by the company from the 1920s and tractors made with the Allgaier company from 1950. The museum offers chauffer-driven tours in vintage vehicles.
