Cynon Valley Museum

The Museum tells the story of the social history of the Cynon Valley from 1800 to the present. Audio visual presentations in the gallery include films on the iron industry around 1830 and the Miner’s Strike of 1984/85. The displays explore issues such as sport, health, religion, popular culture, costume, war and the home front and the post war years. Multimedia units throughout the gallery trace family life through two hundred years. There is also a reconstructed valley’s shop which is to be used for educational visits. The temporary exhibition gallery houses displays based on the museums collections and the Art Gallery has a programme of contemporary art and design, bringing works and exhibitions from all over the world to the Valley. Nearby is Robertstown Bridge, one of the first cast iron framed bridges in the world which carried a horse drawn tramway.
