Choco-Story Brugge

Belgian makers of chocolate have long been celebrated for the quality of their products, and their skills are celebrated in this museum in the centre of Bruges. It is located in the Maison de Croon, a four-storey brick building of 1480, which was originally a tavern, and has served many purposes since. Displays show how chocolate was introduced to Europe as a drink, and the evolution of the chocolate bar as manufacturing developed on an industrial scale. Other exhibitions show the origins of the cocoa beans used by present-day manufacturers – in Central America, Peru, China, Indonesia and the Philippines. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of the chocolate industry in Belgium. The museum’s methods of interpretation include documentary films, demonstrations and tastings, and there is also a display of chocolate statues.
