This national aviation museum was founded in 1955 and moved to its present location at Lelystad airport in 2003. It includes over 100 aircraft in and around two hangers and a reconstruction of the first Schiphol airport terminal, built by Dutch Modernist architects in 1928 for the Amsterdam Olympics. Galleries show photographs, technical manuals, branded airline furnishings and uniforms and tell the story of aviation pioneers, including the Dutch manufacturer Fokker. Visitors can see a radio room and go onto a viewing platform to watch aircraft landing and taking off. Dutch aircraft on show include the Spyker V2 of 1918, a Norduyn Norseman designed in 1934 and a full range of Fokkers, including the company’s best-selling aircraft, the F-27 Friendship produced from 1955. Other notable aircraft include a replica of a Wright Flier, a Lockheed L-749 Constellation, a classic Boeing 747 from KLM and a Douglas DC-2 from 1934. Visitors can try several different types of flight-simulator or book sightseeing flights.
