Alpirsbacher Brauwelt Brauereimuseum

Alpirsbach is a small town in the Black Forest, on the Kinzig river, 13 km south of Freudenstadt. The town is famous for its timber-framed houses, some of them extending to six storeys, for a monastery, and for its brewery that produces the celebrated Klosterbräu beer. There is also a brewery museum. Guided tours are organised every day on which visitors can see the brewery and watch brewers at work, as well as seeing the museum which tells the history of brewing in this part of the Black Forest. An unusual feature is a section on the cosmetic uses of beer. Tours can be extended to include the monastery, where there is a distillery for schnapps. A chocolatier works on the premises, producing, amongst other things, chocolate beer bottles which can be taken away as souvenirs.
