AEMuseum

Fondazione AEM was established in 2007 in order to preserve the historical heritage of AEM (The Electric Municipal Company of Milan), one of most important energy companies in Italy, instituted in 1910 by the Municipality of Milan. Beyond the protection of its industrial heritage, Fondazione AEM supports scientific researches for energy sustainability and recycling, cultural and charity projects, especially in Lombardy region. Headquarter of Fondazione AEM is an old electric substation in Milan transformed in a dynamic heritage hub open to citizens of all ages dedicated to corporate history, culture and sustainability.

AEMuseum is an immersive space where photos, movies, interactive exhibits and historical collections offer to the visitor a journey of discovery of the extraordinary history of AEM from the origins of public lighting to the transformation into “Life Company” and its fundamental role for the industrialization of Milan, in particular thanks hydroelectric power.

AEM Historical Archives are acknowledge by Regione Lombardia as archive of remarkable historical interest and conserve 180.000 photographs, 350 linear meters of documentation, 500 movies, an art collection, etc. All funds are preserved in the old Piazza Trento Power Station, one of the most important place for the industrial history of AEM and great symbol of modernity of Milan.
