to the European Route of Industrial Heritage, the tourism information network of industrial heritage in Europe.
Currently we present more than 1,000 sites in 43 European countries. Among these sites there are 80 Anchor Points which build the virtual ERIH main route. On sixteen Regional Routes you can discover the industrial history of these landscapes in detail. All sites relate to thirteen European Theme Routes which show the diversity of European industrial history and their common roots.

where the longest and highest open-air moving staircase in Germany can be found?
At the Zollverein mining complex in Essen, an anchor point on the European Route of Industrial Heritage. People ascending to the old coal washing plant via the 58 meter long moving staircase not only travel to a height of 23.1 metres; from here they find themselves at the start of an exciting journey back through time. Once at the top, visitors are rewarded with a magnificent view of the gigantic industrial site, and they can also immerse themselves in industrial history. Here in the visitor centre at Zollverein Shaft XII, they can find information on ERIH, the Ruhrgebiet Industrial Heritage Trail and the Zollverein World Cultural Heritage site.
