The Site

Augsburg, a free city until 1806 when it was incorporated in Bavaria, was one of the wealthiest cities in Europe in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. That wealth was founded in part on trading in textiles, and the monuments of the textile industry from later times are of international significance. One hundred years ago approximately 30,000 people worked in the spinning mills, weaving mills and dye works of this German “Manchester.”

In one of Bavaria’s first factories, “tim” documents the once European-wide significance of the industrial city of Augsburg using machines, samples and a “catwalk of fashion history.”
