New Regional Route in Poland connected to ERIH network
On Wednesday, 13 January, at the historic coal mine GUIDO in Zabrze ERIH President, Dr. Meinrad Maria Grewenig, handed over the membership certificates.
The invitees went 320 meters underground to join the event. Just like former miners the guests were transported in narrow conveyor cages in the main pit of GUIDO in the polish town Zabrze.
Numerous representatives from politics, culture and the media came to join this unusual ceremonial act. The ERIH President, Dr. Meinrad Maria Grewenig, General director of the ERIH Anchor Point World Heritage Site Voelklingen Ironworks, was happy to hand over four membership certificates to outstanding industrial heritage sites in Silesia. The Silesian Voivodeship received the ERIH certificate for the Regional Route "Technical monuments in the Silesian Voivodeship". As new ERIH Anchor Points the Historic Coal Mine Guido, the Brewery Zywiec and the Museum of Brewing in Tychy received a membership certificate. The Silesian industrial region is an important address on the European Route of Industrial Heritage.
