ERIH Annual Conference 2008 - "Old Iron is not enough"

This year’s annual conference of the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH) on the 14th and 15th November 2008 was focused on the topics „industrial heritage” and “tourism“. The conference venue, which combines these two subjects in a special way, was chosen deliberately: The Zollverein World Heritage site in Essen, which attracts between 800,000 and 1 million visitors per year. More than 80 delegates from eight countries took the opportunity to exchange experience and establish contacts for future co-operations.

Many good examples of a successful tourism marketing of industrial heritage sites were presented by representatives of the sites during the conference. And also the point of view of tourism professionals was not left out. Information about decisive factors for the success or failure of industrial heritage tourism offers as well as suggestions for the improvement of the co-operation between industrial heritage sites and tourism organisations were presented by the experts.
