Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum is a division of the National Museum in the Baltic port of Szczecin (formerly Stettin) in Western Pomerania, and is accommodated in an exhibition building designed by the architect Wilhelm Meyer Schwartau and built between 1908 and 1913. The present museum was founded by the Ministry for Seafaring in 1946. Its exhibitions show the role of the sea in the economy and social life of West Pomerania over many centuries, with a variety of vessels, ship models, navigational instruments, engineering tools, maps and paintings. There are also sections on ethnography, both in Pomerania and in West Africa, as well as items from China, Indonesia and Japan.
