Kistefoss Museum

Jevnaker is a small town in Oppland, 12 km north-east of Honefoss, in an area with a tradition of working timber extending back over many centuries. The Kistefoss Tresliperi is the only preserved mechanical pulp mill of some 300 that once worked in Norway. It is a large red brick building, dating from 1889 which contains some machinery from the time of its establishment. The millstones with vertical shafts are coupled directly to water turbines, driven by the River Randselva. Those with horizontal shafts are electrically driven. The mill worked until 1955. The museum is also notable for displays of sculpture in its grounds.
